A leading District Councillor has criticised Worcestershire County Council for not supporting his request for the introduction of double yellow lines in Lionfields Road and for an extension to those in Lea Lane.
Gordon points out that for a road traffic order to be issued the reasons for it need to be tested and hence officers carry out a formal assessment.
The reasons for the introduction of a traffic order are for improvements to road safety or the reduction of congestion. Furthermore, any traffic order needs to be enforced if it is to be effective.
In the case of extending the double yellow lines along Lea Lane Gordon has been assured by officers that a full assessment was made when the double yellow lines were introduced and that nothing has changed requiring a reassessment. Highways, the emergency services, the School and other interested parties were consulted
Officers are currently assessing the road safety risks in Lionfields Road at the junction with Lionfields Close.
“My concerns are that curb side parking restrictions in Lionfields Road would be a major inconvenience to residents given the lack of parking spaces in the area.
My main objection to increasing double yellow lines in Cookley is that the District Council will struggle to enforce them.
There are just two enforcement officers for the whole of Wyre Forest”, says Gordon.
