Plans to extend Bewdley Christmas lights into Wribbenhall will help spread the seasonal spirit across the river this year.
Bewdley Town Clerk Nick Farress and County Councillor Gordon Yarranton, who represents Wribbenhall with the support of his fellow Councillors have come up with the idea.
Bewdley retailers and hospitality businesses have suffered during 2016 due to road closures, disruption to parking and repairs to the church. This year Bewdley is planning a spectacular Victorian Christmas lights ‘switch on’ to give a boost the town over the festive period and both Nick Ferris and Councillor Gordon Yarranton want to share this with Wribbenhall.
“Residents of one of the main gateways to Bewdley have told me they would love to see the lights extend into Wribbenhall this year.
The Christmas lights along with the main festive events will contribute to the economic regeneration of Bewdley which is much needed after a torrid year of disruption.
The costs will be met from Councillor Yarranton’s Divisional fund and from Bewdley Town Council.
We have also applied to Wyre Forest District Council to match fund the money raised from my Divisional fund and other contributors. As most of the money used will be for switches this can be seen as a long term investment as these will be used year after year”, Says Gordon Yarranton.
“This year we have planned a spectacular ‘lights switch on’ for Bewdley this and the extension of these across the river into Wribbenhall will enhance the impact greatly. We are having a Victorian Christmas in Bewdley with a Craft and Charity Market on the 26th of November from 11.00 am to 7.00 pm with festive entertainment from 12.00 to 7.00pm. ‘The Christmas lights switch on’ will be at 5.30pm”, Says Nick Farres.
